Laudato Si’, A Week Of Reflection And Prayer On Pope Francis’ Encyclical

Laudato Si’ Week returns from May 21 to 28: the Church celebrates another year since the publication of Pope Francis’ encyclical

Laudato Si’ Week returns to celebrate the anniversary of the publication of Pope Francis’ encyclical of the same name with a new edition to be held May 21-28, 2023

Through various global events, all united under the motto “Hope for the Earth. Hope for Humanity,” the Church unites to respond once again “to the cry of the Earth and the poor,” as Pope Francis has been encouraging us for the past 8 years.

This year, the film “The Letter,” released last October and chronicling the journey to Rome of several leaders addressing the climate crisis to discuss the encyclical Laudato Si’ with Pope Francis, will be the main resource for the week’s events.

To that end, in addition to the community screenings and other events that can be organized using this form, on Saturday, May 27, people can participate in “Answering the Letter” at 7 p.m. Rome time. To conclude the week, on Sunday, May 28, Pentecost Day, a liturgical celebration will be held from Assisi–the encyclical’s birthplace.

What is Laudato Si’ Week?

Laudato Si’ Week began as a way to celebrate the first anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical letter, Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home, which celebrates its eighth anniversary this year.

Since then, the annual celebration has become a way for all Catholics to unite and rejoice in the progress we have made in bringing Laudato Si’ to life and commit to continuing to pray and act for our common home.

The event is supported by the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and facilitated by Laudato Si’ Movement, together with collaborators such as USG, UISG, World Union of Catholic Women Organization and Don Bosco Green Alliance, among others.
