Saint of the Day, 6 September: Saint Zacharius, prophet is celebrated

Zecharius was a biblical prophet penultimate of the minor prophets of the Old Testament. The son of Barachiah and grandson of Addo, he was of priestly lineage

Zacharius, the prophet who announced a king of peace

Zacharius is commemorated in the Christian faith for many reasons, the two main ones being prophetic visions: firstly, he predicted the return of the Jewish people from exile to the promised land, and secondly, he announced the coming of a humble and peaceful Messiah, whom the evangelists recognised in Jesus.

ROMAN MARTYROLOGY. Commemoration of Saint Zacharius, prophet, who foretold the return of the people from exile to the promised land, giving them the proclamation of a king of peace, which Christ the Lord admirably brought about in his triumphant entry into the Holy City of Jerusalem.
