Burkina Faso: Forum on Works of Mercy approaching
Spazio Spadoni: A Bridge Between Volunteerism and Social Commitment in Italy and Religious Congregations in the World
Spazio Spadoni aims to promote generative pathways between volunteer and social engagement experiences operating in Italy and religious congregations that, by their nature, have social, community, humanitarian and assistance experiences in Africa, Latin America and Asia.
Spazio Spadoni aims to bring to the source the rediscovery of the ideal and spiritual momentum of commitment and mission through works of mercy.
Born Sept. 11, 2020 in Lucca, Spazio Spadoni is based in the Franciscan convent of San Cerbone, among the green hills of Lucca. A house of spirituality, prayer and meetings designed to promote the theme of mission and, above all, the Works of Mercy.
The promotion and dissemination of the “Mercy and Mission” culture led Spazio Spadoni to conceive and organize an annual meeting to deepen and share the Works of Mercy. In 2021 the theme of the meeting was: Making Room for Reciprocity and in 2022: Making Room for Courage. The theme for 2023 is: Making space for the re-evolution of the Works of Mercy.
What is new this year is that the meeting, which for the past two years has always been held in Lucca, home of Spazio Spadoni, is moving further afield and will be held specifically in Africa, in Burkina Faso, Benin, Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya.
Spazio Spadoni Burkina-Faso
In Burkina Faso, under the blessing of His Excellency Archbishop Paul OUEDRAOGO of the Diocese of Bobo-Dioulasso and with the support of the Union des Consacrés de Bobo-Dioulasso (U.C.B), Spazio Spadoni is organizing a diocesan forum, that is, a meeting to deepen and share on the works of mercy with the central theme: Making space for the re-evolution of works of mercy. It will be held on Dec. 02 and 03, 2023 at the Training Center of the Missionary Workers of the Immaculate DOMAINE SAINT JOSEPH in Sector 25, near OCADES.
Representatives of women’s religious congregations in the Diocese of Bobo and lay people engaged in mission through the Works of Mercy are invited to the forum.
A number of themes have been developed that will lead to workshops on mercy and mission. The first day will focus on the spiritual content of the Works of Mercy: OPERAM. The second day’s program will focus on the concrete aspect, the embodiment of the Works of Mercy: HIC-SUM.
Adoption of the Works of Mercy Forum by the Union of Consecrated Bobo (UCB)
The General Assembly of the Union of Consecrated Bobo (U.C.B) was held on Sunday, November 05, 2023. The Assembly began with Mass at the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Lourdes, celebrated and concelebrated by the religious priests who are members of the U.C.B. It was held in one of the halls of the cathedral.
The agenda included the following items: the presentation and adoption of the report on the activities of the past past pastoral year, the proposal and elaboration of the program for the pastoral year 2023-2024, which has just begun, and finally the vote on the new council for the next financial year.
In proposing and elaborating the program for the pastoral year 2023-2024, it was proposed that the Forum on the Works of Mercy of Spazio Spadoni be included in the calendar of activities for the new year. After discussion in the Assembly, the Forum on Works of Mercy was adopted by all as the first activity of the U.C.B. for the year 2023-2024. Everyone’s interest in the Works of Mercy Revolution proposed by the Spadoni Space organization was felt.
The meeting ended with a fraternal lunch shared in a spirit of joy and cheerfulness.
The next meeting is scheduled for the weekend of December 2-3 at Domaine Saint Joseph, the training center of the Travailleuses Missionnaires de l’Immaculée in Sector 25 in Bobo-Dioulasso.
