In the Democratic Republic of Congo, in Kisangani, Spazio + Spadoni’s Forum on Works of Mercy
The Archdiocese of Kisangani will host from September 18-20 the Forum on the reEvolution of Works of Mercy sponsored by Spazio + Spadoni
The Forum on the “reEvolution of works of mercy,” an important event for the Kisangani-based Church of the Family of God, will be held in Kisangani from September 18-20. This event, organized by the spazio + spadoni / OPERA M movement in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Kisangani, aims to be a time of reflection and sharing around the reEvolution of works of mercy, actions that are at the heart of the Christian mission. The blessing of His Excellency Bishop Marcel Utembi Tapa and his Auxiliary Bishop Léonard Ndjadi Njate underscores the importance of this Forum for the local Church.
Organized in the large hall of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, this ecclesial event will bring together different members of the local Church as well as civil representatives and religious leaders. This is with the aim of promoting a renewed practice of the works of mercy.
Background and significance of works of mercy
Works of mercy are a tradition deeply rooted in the Christian faith, including acts of charity toward those in need.
They fall into two categories: corporal works of mercy (such as feeding the hungry, etc.) and spiritual works of mercy (such as comforting the afflicted, etc.).
In a context where social inequality, poverty and conflict continue to mark the Democratic Republic of Congo, these opportunities remain of paramount importance.
The forum aims to reexamine these actions, not only as individual acts of charity, but as pillars of collective social transformation; for a “reEvolution of Works of Mercy”
Forum Goalsù
- General objective
– To help rethink and actualize the works of mercy: the ReEvolution of the Works of Mercy.
- Specific objectives
– Generate in participants a new impulse to the works of mercy.
– Exchange on the practice of works of mercy in the local church.
– Contextualize the works of mercy in the face of the challenges of our local church.
Forum Activities
In order to offer insights and practical tools to participants, the Forum will organize conferences and cross-workshops to propose directives to the Pastor of the Archdiocese of Kisangani regarding the reEvolution of works of mercy in his Church.
The forum will seek to answer this “key question”: how to live the works of mercy to effectively respond to today’s challenges? The organizers hope that this forum will serve as a catalyst for a new dynamic in which charity becomes an engine for social justice, inclusion and peace.
Forum participants and audience
The Forum will bring together a variety of participants, ranging from Christian faithful, clergy and lay people in charge of church structures and works, to include religious leaders of other faiths and representatives of civil society. Each group will have a crucial role to play in the dissemination and implementation of the reEvolution of Works of Mercy.
For example, civil representatives may explore partnerships to integrate works of mercy into public policy, while religious leaders may encourage their communities to actively participate in initiatives to promote and spread works of mercy.
Future Perspectives
The Forum aims to have the potential to create significant impact in the city of Kisangani in particular and Tshopo Province in general. By bringing together different actors in society around the theme of works of mercy, it aims to inspire new local initiatives, strengthen existing collaborations, and pave the way for joint projects. This is to contribute to a social transformation in which works of mercy become a systemic response to social challenges, rather than simply isolated acts of charity.
The Making Room for the ReEvolution of Works of Mercy Forum in Kisangani represents a unique opportunity to rediscover and revitalize an ancient tradition in a modern context. Bringing together different actors around this theme highlights the importance of active charity and social engagement. This Forum is not only a time for reflection, but also a call to action for all those who wish to contribute to a more just and merciful society.
