“United in the Gift” | Acireale diocese chosen for Cei Campaign
Don Orazio Tornabene, from the Diocese of Acireale, lends his face to the CEI Campaign “United in Giving”
Enhancing the priest’s vocation and his contribution to the growth of the community through listening is the central message
of the new Campaign of the Italian Bishops’ Conference “United in the Gift” whose title is “Italian Catholic Church. In our lives, every day.”
Lending his face to the Campaign is Fr. Orazio Tornabene, director of diocesan Caritas and social and labor pastoral care for the diocese of Acireale, in the province of Catania. A priest since 2013 and a poet, he has always accompanied his young people on paths to autonomy, including through the Listening Centers.
Specifically, in the Campaign, he recounts the projects designed together with the “Città del Fanciullo Foundation” in order to combat unemployment and youth emigration.
These are activities through which self-entrepreneurship and creativity are promoted and which offer training paths in agriculture and tourism, in order to give young people in the area opportunities for growth and employment. To give alternatives to those in the South who often have to decide to leave the land they love, far from their families.
In this way, the Church shows its proximity in the community in which it operates, because to the extent that it makes itself “home” and “family” it can become the place where people’s lives take place and give them concrete possibilities for the future.
Confirms Fr. Horatio: “Sharing becomes charity and, by its very nature, witness. With the commercial, we told about our efforts to walk alongside our neighbors and support them in the name of Jesus Christ.”
