The Word every day: May 19-25, 2024
Commentary on the Readings of the Day by Father Giordano Favillini
Sunday of Pentecost 19/05
Jn 13:25
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples, When the Paraclete comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness of me.
The Holy Spirit will make Jesus inwardly present in all who believe, teach and explain the truth of the Gospel, and realize and initiate a new life that will never end, ferry our existence to Heaven

Jn 19:25-27
They stood by the Cross of Jesus his Mother, Mary the mother of Cleopas, and Mary of Magdala. Jesus then seeing his Mother and beside her the disciple whom he loved, said to his mother, “Woman behold your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her in.
We are the Lord’s disciples and Jesus hands over his Mother to all of us, to welcome Mary into our lives means to consecrate ourselves to her, to her Immaculate Heart, so that she may become the guide, the guardian, the teacher of our journey of faith.

Mark 9:36
Jesus took a child, placed him in their midst and embracing him, said to them, “Whoever welcomes just one of these children in my name welcomes me.”
Those who wish to experience Jesus’ embrace must make themselves small, not go in search of things greater than our possibilities, but cultivate trust and confidence in the great and merciful Heart of Jesus.

Mark 9:39
Jesus said “there is no one who performs a miracle in my name and immediately can speak evil of me: whoever is not against us is for us.”
The Lord arouses so much good in the world ,even through people who apparently do not belong to the Church, let us learn to recognize this and give glory to God because in all good things and realities there is always His hand.

Mark 9:49-50
For everyone will be salted with fire. A good thing is salt; but if salt becomes insipid, with what will you give it flavor? Have salt in yourselves and be at peace with one another.
True wisdom is given to us by the Holy Spirit, but if we live in evil we will become insipid, insubstantial, let us keep the presence of the Spirit in us so we will live well and be at peace with everyone.

Mark 10:6-9
From the beginning of creation God made them male and female; therefore the man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. Thus they will no longer be two but one flesh. So let man not divide what God has joined together.
Christian marriage is a great mystery, that is, a reality of enormous holiness, the spouses become concreators with God, a sign of His oblative Love, a cell of society and a small Church. It is an essential and indispensable project, which is why the division of a marriage is a wound not only in the spouses, but for the whole social and ecclesial body.

Mark 10:15
Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, whoever does not welcome the kingdom of God as a child welcomes it, will not enter it.”
One of the characteristics of children is spontaneity, accompanied by enthusiasm. This is how we should stand before the Word of God: welcome it not critically or only intellectually, but as a beautiful gift for our happiness.
