The Word every day: May 13-18, 2024

Commentary on the Readings of the Day by Father Giordano Favillini

Monday, 13/05

Jn. 16:33

I have told you this so that you may have peace in Me . In the world you have tribulations , but have courage : I have overcome the world .

Jesus takes away any illusion that the Christian life is an easy thing, it is beautiful because Jesus is with us. He invites us to have courage, so much courage despite our weakness, because knowing that He has overcome all evil, He fights with us and in Him we will be more than victorious.

Tuesday, 14/05

Jn 17:3

At that time Jesus said, This is eternal life : that they may know you (Father) ,the only true God, and him whom you sent Jesus Christ.

One enters eternal Life when one loves and believes in Jesus , when one learns to know him by studying the Gospel , but especially if one recognizes him as our only Lord . Eternal Life is this , it is already here on earth let us hasten to enter into it.

Wednesday, 15/05

Jn 17:15

At that time Jesus prayed saying, I do not pray that you take them out of the world , but that you keep them from the evil one . They are not of the world as I am not of the world.

Jesus’ prayer guards us from the snares of satan , we need not fear him , we have an intercession over our heads that protects us , rather we stay away from worldliness this is the devil’s bait with which he lures us.

Thursday, 16/05

Jn 17:24

Father I want those you have given me to be also with me where I am, that they may contemplate my glory, the glory you have given me; for you loved me before the creation of the world.

Jesus is determined to share his glory, that is, the eternal happiness of Heaven, with all of us. Let us come out of our selfishness ,out of our grievances , let us stop with our sins so that this will of Jesus can be fulfilled in us.

Friday, 17/05

Jn 21 ,18

Verily, verily I say to you( Peter), when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands and another will dress you and take you where you do not want to go.

The Lord allows old age and illness to help us detach from ourselves ,from things, from roles to prepare us to leave everything we have so that death will not be a trauma but a healthy release.

Saturday, 18/05

Jn 21:24-25

This is the disciple who testifies to these things and has written them down and we know that his testimony is true. There are still many other things accomplished by Jesus that, if they were written down one by one , I think the world itself would not be enough to contain the books that would have to be written.

Jesus is the eternal and perfect wisdom and the revelation written in the Bible is only a small hint of what God is , it is an introduction to what will be manifested to us later when we see the Lord face to face. Hope and trust in Jesus you will never be disappointed.
