The Word every day: 9-15 March, 2025
Commentary on the Readings of the Day by Father Giordano Favillini
Sunday 9/03
Luke 4:2
Jesus left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, for forty days tempted by the devil. We have an implacable enemy, who does everything to get us off the path of faith, who causes us not to trust Jesus and to trust only in our own means. Lent is the time to practice spiritual combat.
Monday 10/03
Matthew 25:32
When the Son of Man comes in his glory before Him all the nations will be gathered together. We must learn to organise our existence with all its choices knowing that we will have to give an account of everything to Jesus when we stand before Him.
Tuesday 11/03
Matthew 6:7
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘When you pray, do not waste words like the pagans; they think they are heard by dint of words. Prayer is done with the heart, the Lord sees deep within us, all it takes is a sigh of joy or sorrow before Him and that is already prayer.
Wednesday 12/03
Luke 11:29
Jesus began to say: ‘This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign but no sign will be given to it’. Wickedness consists in not trusting God. Guarantees are asked for when one thinks one is deceived. But can God deceive us?
Thursday 13/03
Matthew 7:12
Whatever you want men to do to you, you also do to them. For this is the law and the prophets. This Lent, let us practise this word and the quality of our lives will take a leap for the better and we will feel happy with the people we meet every day.
Friday 14/03
Matthew 5:22
But I say unto you, Whosoever is angry with his brother shall be brought into judgment. To be angry with someone who does us wrong is instinctive, natural, but to remain angry leads to hatred and vengeance. With God’s help let us always reconcile and re-establish brotherly relations.
Saturday 15/03
Matthew 5:46
For if you love those who love you, what reward is there for you? So do sinners. With God’s help let us learn to have kindness and care for all, so we will experience the joy of living that universal brotherhood that the Lord asks of us.
