The Word every day: 30 March – 5 April, 2025
Commentary on the Readings of the Day by Father Giordano Favillini
Sunday 30/03
Luke 15:32
You should rejoice and be glad because this brother of yours was dead and has come back to life, was lost and has been found. We cannot understand God’s happiness when one of His children returns to Him, after having abandoned, offended, betrayed, insulted Him. God welcomes him with a greater love than before.
Monday 31/03
John 4:50
Jesus said to him, ‘Go, your son lives’. The man believed the word that Jesus had spoken to him and set out. The grace and favours we ask of the Lord we should not wait for them eagerly and immediately. Let us wait for them with confidence and continue to walk in faith without ever stopping.
Tuesday 1/04
John 5:8
Jesus said to the paralytic, ‘Get up, take your stretcher and walk’. And instantly the man was healed, took up his stretcher, and began to walk. As Jesus healed that paralytic, so much the more will heal us of our vices, addictions, selfishness, every complex and fear. It is all a matter of trust, request and abandonment into his hands.
Wednesday 2/04
John 5:24
Verily I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and goeth not unto judgment, but is passed from death unto life. The life spoken of here is not biological life but the very life of God. It is received with the sacraments, nourished by faith and is already eternal life.
Thursday 3/04
John 5:40
Jesus says: ‘But will you not come to me to have life?’. This is the real existential drama: renouncing Jesus. This renunciation is to fall into an abyss of illusions that generate all sorts of anguish and unhappiness, frustration and loneliness.
Friday 4/04
John 7:30
They then tried to arrest Him, but no one could lay hands on Him because His hour had not yet come. The hour of the cross and resurrection is decided by the Father. Men kill Jesus, but the Father through that death saves the world and breathes divine life into death through the resurrection of Jesus.
Saturday 5/04
John 7:40
Upon hearing the words of Jesus, some among the people said, ‘This is indeed the prophet. Others said, ‘This is the Christ. In spite of the hostility towards Jesus, yesterday as today many open themselves to Him and recognise in His words a message of life, a hope that opens up in the many hardships of this world.
