Commentary on the Readings of the Day by Father Giordano Favillini

Sunday 28/07

Jn 6:1-2

Jesus went across the sea of Galilee, that is, of Tiberias, and a great crowd followed him, because they saw the signs he performed on the sick. The signs on the sick are healings and liberations, the crowds follow him because these signs give hope, they no longer feel at the mercy of evil, how much we need it today.

Monday 29/07

Matthew 13:33

He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in three measures of flour until it was all leavened. The dimension of prayer and contemplation are not seen but are those invisible realities that raise the level of quality of life throughout the world.

Tuesday 30/07

Matthew 13:36 and 38

Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field. The field is the world and the good seed are the children of the Kingdom. The tares are the children of the evil one, the enemy who sowed them is the devil. We must have a lot of patience and trust in the adversities and negative events that are part of this world. The invisible enemy acts actively in that space that is allowed to him and will never have the last word.

Wednesday 31/07

Matthew 13:45-46

The Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant who goes in search of fine pearls; having found one pearl of great value, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. When one discovers that he possesses an immortal soul, all worldly interests disappear. The soul is the precious pearl and living according to its dimension becomes the most important thing.

Thursday 1/08

Matthew 13:47

Jesus said to his disciples: “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a net cast into the sea, which gathers fish of every kind.” A Christian community is never homogeneous, it is not only made up of saints, but of every kind of person, in it everyone has a place. It is made so that everyone in various ways and at different times, can experience the Love of God.

Friday 2/08

Matthew 13:54-55

Jesus came to his hometown, taught in their synagogue and the people were amazed and said: “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miracles? Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Often we look for exceptional personalities, great intellectuals, men of strong personality to gratify ourselves with elevated reflections, but the Lord speaks rather in simplicity, in the ordinariness of things and events.

Saturday 3/08

Matthew 14:1-2

At that time news of the fame of Jesus reached Herod the tetrarch. He said to his courtiers: “This is John the Baptist. He has risen from the dead and for this reason he has the power to do miracles. When injustice is committed against the innocent and defenseless, this sin becomes a mental persecution and an obsession that generates fear and anguish. Only God’s forgiveness liberates and heals.
