The Word every day: 27 October – 2 November, 2024
Commentary on the Readings of the Day by Father Giordano Favillini
Sunday 27/10
Mark 10: 49-50
They called the blind man, saying to him, ‘Take courage, he is calling you. He threw off his cloak, jumped up and came to Jesus. Jesus in many circumstances of life calls everyone, with many languages. Let us never delay because what Jesus asks of us or gives us corresponds to our true good.
Monday 28/10
Luke 13: 11 and 13
A woman who had had a spirit that kept her infirm for 18 years was bent. Jesus said to her: ‘You are free from your infirmity’. And he laid his hands on her. When we do not want to pray, we are held back by the tempter. Let us invoke Jesus and He will deliver us.
Tuesday 29/10
Luke 13:20
Jesus said: ‘What shall the kingdom of God be like?’. It is like leaven, hidden in three bushels of flour, until it is all fermented. Faith cannot be seen, it is hidden in the heart, but when it is alive it brings the whole person to life with surprising vitality.
Wednesday 30/10
Luke 13:24
Jesus said: ‘Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many I tell you will try to enter but will not succeed’. To follow Jesus one must be willing to no longer live only for oneself. Not everyone can accept this.
Thursday 31/10
Luke 13:32
Jesus said: ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I shall be finished’. With the resurrection Jesus continues His work of redemption in a different way. Today He is the only liberator and saviour of mankind, because He is alive and present, the victor over evil and death.
Friday 1/11
Matthew 5:9
Jesus said: ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God’. War and violence do not belong to God. Whoever fights for religious reasons is abusing God for the sake of power. He who belongs to God always sows peace.
Saturday 2/11
John 6:40
For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life. I will raise him up on the last day. The last day will be when we will close our eyes to this world and faith in Jesus will enable us to open them to the eternal reality of Paradise. This is the beginning of our resurrection.
