The Word every day: 26 May-1 June, 2024
Commentary on the Readings of the Day by Father Giordano Favillini
Sunday, 26/05
Matthew 28:19
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you
Our task ,as disciples,is to immerse everyone we meet in Trinitarian Love. To evangelize is not to indoctrinate but to be channels of transmission of God’s foolish love for His creatures.
Monday, 27/05
Mark 10:21
Then Jesus fixed his gaze on him, loved him and said to him, “Only one thing you lack: sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come! Follow me.”
One who experiences Jesus’ gaze will not be able to look at any other thing and person except to follow the one who looked at him with such intensity that everything else becomes insignificant.

Mark 10:29-30
Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left home or brother or sister or mother or father or children or fields because of me and because of the gospel who does not receive now in this time a hundredfold and eternal life in the time to come.
God is Providence and never leaves in misery those who live according to His Word; it is atheistic ideologies and relativism that impoverish and deprive much of humanity of necessities.
Wednesday 29/05
Mark 10:43-44
Jesus said: among you, however, it is not so; but whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant , and whoever wants to be first among you will be slave of all.
We must not suppress the ambition to be the first or the greatest, but we must change our perspective , great and first in love and brotherly service.
Thursday, 30/05
Mark 10:51
To Bartimaeus who was blind Jesus said to him, “ What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man answered him : “Rabbunì that I may see again!” And Jesus said to him, “ Go your faith has saved you.” And immediately he saw again and followed him along the way.
The greatest good is Faith with it everything is possible, through it we can obtain much good but above all salvation and the strength to set out with Jesus.
Friday, 31/05
Luke 1:48
The Lord looked upon the humility of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed.
As the Father looked upon Mary’s humility so He looks with an eye of predilection upon all those who become humble like Her thus receiving His mercy that produces joy and peace in faith.
Saturday, 1/06
Mark 11:27-28
Jesus and His disciples went again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the Temple ,the chief priests, scribes and elders came to Him and said, “By what authority do you do these things? Or who gave you authority to do them?”
The Gospel in its radicality very effectively challenges our conscience but we are not always willing to accept its demands then questions arise about Jesus, about His identity to find justifications for our pusillanimity.
