The Word every day: 23-29 March, 2025

Commentary on the Readings of the Day by Father Giordano Favillini

Sunday 23/03

Luke 13:7

Behold I have been coming for three years to seek fruit on this tree but I find none; cut it down therefore, why must it exploit the soil? The fruit that the Lord seeks from us is the decision and commitment for our conversion. Do we live in lukewarmness and indifference or do we make ourselves available to the Lord to be converted?

Monday 24/03

Luke 4:74

Jesus said: ‘Truly I say to you, no prophet is welcome in his own country’. We always accept Jesus, what he says is the truth. To reject him is to reject the truth and open the door to the lie that destabilises everything and leads to ruin.

Tuesday 25/03

Luke 1:30

Fear not Mary, for you have found favour with God, and behold you will conceive a son, give birth to him, and call his name Jesus. Mary’s virginal conception fulfils the plan of God who chose to enter into human nature in order to insert his divinity into it. God with the incarnation of Jesus passes through all human reality up to the most atrocious pain and the reality of death.

Wednesday 26/03

Matthew 5:17

Jesus said: ‘Do not believe that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets, I have not come to abolish but to fulfil. Jesus is the fulfilment of everything, of all existence, not only of religious realities, but also of thought, of philosophies, without Him we lose the meaning of things, of history and of life itself.

Thursday 27/03

Luke 11:14

Jesus was casting out a demon who was mute, the demon came out and the mute began to speak and the crowds were seized with fear. When communication and dialogue are blocked in human relationships, there is almost always the work of the divider who through incommunicability creates misunderstandings and divisions.

Friday 28/03

Mark 12: 29-30

Listen Israel the Lord our God is the only Lord. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. When we love God sincerely and freely, it will be much easier to love all creatures too, because we will see in them the presence of the object of our great love, which is God.

Saturday 29/03

Luke 18:14

For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. God is humility, and only those who are humble find their way into communion with Him.
