The Word every day: 16-22 June, 2024

Commentary on the Readings of the Day by Father Giordano Favillini

Sunday, 16/06

Mark 4:31-32

The Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed, which when it is sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds that are on the ground, but when it is sown, it grows and becomes larger than all the plants. Faith is a reality that settles in the hearts of so many people, it seems as if it is not there, it has no weight in the world, but it spreads inconceivably bringing peace and protection where it is welcomed.

Monday, 17/06

Matthew 5:42

Give to those who ask, and to those who desire from you a loan, do not turn your back. When friends or relatives find themselves in dire financial straits or financial disaster, so that fatal acts of despair may be avoided, always offer your help and active solidarity.

Tuesday, 18/06

Matthew 5:47

And if you give greetings only to your brothers, what do you do out of the ordinary? Don’t the pagans do that too? The mission of the Christian is to spread the culture of fraternity, it is also spread by a greeting offered to everyone even to those who do not think like a believer.

Wednesday, 19/06

Matthew 6:1

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness before men in order to be admired by them , otherwise there is no reward for you with your Father in heaven. Those who flaunt their good works love only themselves, use those they help to assert themselves ,in doing so they will drown in their own selfishness.

Thursday, 20/06

Matthew 6:7

In praying do not waste words like the pagans: they believe they are heard by dint of words. Prayer is first of all a reality of the heart, it is born in the silence of one’s intimacy, one prays with the heart and it is there that the Father sees the deep feelings and desires and in the depths of our being he responds and speaks.

Friday, 21/06

Matthew 6:19

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth , where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; store up for yourselves treasures in heaven Today we talk a lot about investments, those who live with the prospect of Eternal Life invest in it by exercising charity and using part of their possessions by helping those in need , this is the investment that never runs out. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day suffices its own punishment .

Saturday, 22/06

Matthew 6:34

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day suffices its own sorrow. The only necessary worry is to be in God’s grace. To live each day as if it were the only one of one’s existence with the knowledge that we are eternally on the hands of God our Father.
