The Word every day: 1-7 December, 2024
Commentary on the Readings of the Day by Father Giordano Favillini
Sunday 1/12
Luke 21:35
Let us be vigilant at all times, praying, that we may have the strength to escape all that is about to happen. Let us first of all take care to live united with the Lord, cultivating a great trust in Him, and this will give us sufficient strength to overcome all difficulties and negative setbacks.
Monday 2/12
Matthew 8:6
Lord, my servant is at home, in bed, paralysed and suffering terribly. Jesus said to him, ‘I will come and heal him. Jesus came and is present to heal our existence, often sick not only in the body but especially in the heart that is blocked in love. When the heart does not love the whole person becomes sick.
Tuesday 3/12
Luke 10:21
Jesus exulted with joy in the Holy Spirit and said: ‘I give praise to you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth’. Joy is indispensable for living peacefully and fraternally with everyone. It comes from the Holy Spirit invoked and received daily. Without Him it is impossible to possess true joy.
Wednesday 4/12
Matthew 15:30
A great crowd gathered around Jesus, bringing with them lame, crippled, blind, deaf and many other sick people. They laid them at his feet and he healed them. Through the Eucharist we receive this healing power of Jesus today as we did two thousand years ago. It does not always heal the body, but always heals the whole person, lifts them up in dignity and holiness.
Thursday 5/12
Matthew 7:24
Jesus said: ‘Whoever hears these words of mine and puts them into practice will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock’. Whoever builds his existence on solid principles and founds it on Christian values will succeed in overcoming all internal and external upheavals, all trials, even if suffering will not be spared.
Friday 6/12
Matthew 9: 26 and 29
Jesus touched the eyes of the circles and said: ‘Let it happen for you according to your faith, and their eyes were opened’. The truly poor are those who have no faith, who wander in the various human ideologies, in the New Age galaxy, seeking healing and happiness.
Saturday 7/12
Matthew 9:10
Jesus, when he called his twelve disciples to himself, gave them power over unclean spirits to cast them out and heal every disease and infirmity. At the origin of every spiritual, moral, physical evil is the action of evil spirits. The Church, with the sacraments and the preaching of the Gospel, can stop their action.
