What does an African child dream about?
We will find out in this new column, by Xaverian missionary Father Oliviero Ferro
And when we understand that dreams (but not rights and possibilities) are the same as those of our children, it will be time to wake up and perform works of mercy.
Because through them, an African child (and others) will be able to live in the joy of being able to dream of something that can become possible
If you ask an African child living in one of the countries at war (like The Congo) what Peace is, he will look at you all amazed. In short, he will let you know that he does not know, that he does not know it.
Instead, he will tell you that he has experienced war, fear, having to run away at night, seeing the dead and wounded, and many other bad things.
Her dreams are populated with blood, with sadness. He would like peace but who among the Great Ones is interested in children’s dreams?
He will tell you again that he often had to go hungry, that he did not have medicine to care for himself, that he lost all his friends in the village.
He will tell you that he no longer knows where his father is. Perhaps, he is dead or hiding in the forest.
With tears in her eyes, she will tell you what happened to her mother and sisters. Too many bad things.
And you still talk to him about peace. But if he has never seen it!!!
Those in charge don’t want peace. And the children don’t matter, they only bother.
For their dreams, the Leaders have no time. Peace is a bad business. It takes war, so they stay in peace.
