What does an African child dream about?
We will find out in this new column, by Xaverian missionary Father Oliviero Ferro

And when we understand that dreams (but not rights and possibilities) are the same as those of our children, it will be time to wake up and perform works of mercy.

Because through them, an African child (and others) will be able to live in the joy of being able to dream of something that can become possible

I have never understood how an African child can handle pain. It is something exceptional. Perhaps it is a gift from the Lord.

Yet, seeing them with malaria, worms, fever makes one very sad. Then, when they start losing weight, slimming down, showing bones , then you wonder: why do they have to suffer?

Then let us not forget those who are wounded or maimed in the wars that bloody our land of Africa.
Seeing them ,you can no longer get enough tears.

Some might say it is resignation, fatalism. I don’t think so.

In fact, I am sure that they do not accept suffering, that they want to overcome pain at all costs.

It’s just that sometimes they feel alone and abandoned by everyone.

This is also one of their dreams: how to overcome pain.

Some people go to healers or witch doctors and think that all this can help them.

Others go to doctors who many times think more about their self-interest than healing the sick person.

However, I have never seen a child who abandons his friend in difficulties. He tries to be close to him, to visit him often. In short, he lets him know that he is not alone.

If then you, who are older, also stop with him to give him courage, then he will never forget again.

In every child who suffers, God teaches you to love. He did that too when He was on this earth. How many times He was close to the sick children. Now He asks it of you. Don’t ever forget it.
