What does an African child dream about?
We will find out in this new column, by Xaverian missionary Father Oliviero Ferro

And when we understand that dreams (but not rights and possibilities) are the same as those of our children, it will be time to wake up and perform works of mercy.

Because through them, an African child (and others) will be able to live in the joy of being able to dream of something that can become possible

Perhaps it is a little strange to think that a child already dreams of a job for his future.

By himself, he already works every day at home. Slackers are not expected in African families.

Everyone has to do his part. Even if you are small, you have to do something: go fetch water, sweep the yard, wash the floor ,help mom with lunch, do small services in the village and … of course go to school and do homework.

Then, he will be asked to accompany his parents in field work.

But his dream, and you can also see it in their games, is to have a job for the future, to become an important person.

He sees his older brothers and sisters having to leave their families to go find jobs in the big cities. And when they return for vacation, she is amazed to hear their stories.

And in his dreams, the thought returns that when he is older, he too will do wonderful things.
