What does an African child dream about?
We will find out in this new column, by Xaverian missionary Father Oliviero Ferro

And when we understand that dreams (but not rights and possibilities) are the same as those of our children, it will be time to wake up and perform works of mercy.

Because through them, an African child (and others) will be able to live in the joy of being able to dream of something that can become possible

Everyone has the right to life, to health, to affection…But they also have the right to a home.
If one day you happen to walk into an African home and ask where the children sleep, you will be very amazed to see how they are housed.
Mats are put on the floor in a room and they all sleep, side by side, wrapped perhaps in a blanket.

But if you ask why they are not made to sleep in a bed, someone will say there is not enough money to buy furniture, and then those who suffer, as always, are the little ones.

Maybe, someone more affluent will put them in a bed, but all together (to save money…).

This is also one of the many dreams in the hearts of African children.
For them it is not so important to have a house with four walls and a roof over it; rather, they ask that the people who live in this house realize that they exist, that they are people.

They also want to grow up, but they need to be helped. They have the right to it.

Of course, suggestions to make the house better are always welcome.
But what worries the mothers of these children most is the search for daily food and from peace in the family.

Then, slowly, they will make the house nicer if the husband remembers to help them by giving them the money he has (instead of using it for other things).
