In Tours in Gaul Lugdunense, now in France, St. Gatian, the first bishop, is said to have been transferred from Rome to this city and was buried in the local Christian cemetery.

Hagiography
In the Historia Francorum the famous work by Gregory of Tours, he relates that in the year 250 seven bishops were sent from Rome to evangelize Gaul, among them was Gatian.
Gatian stopped in Lugdun Gaul and preached the Christian faith in Tours for about fifty years, founding the diocese of Tours. He initially encountered great hostility from the inhabitants of Tours, so much so that he was forced to perform rites in the catacombs. When he died he was buried in a Christian cemetery in the vicinity of Tours. Gregory reports, “in ipsius vici cimiterio, qui erat christianorum.”
