Pope Francis officially launches the 2025 Jubilee Year

A Jubilee of Hope

This December, Pope Francis will open the Holy Door of St Peter’s Basilica, an event that will launch the 2025 Jubilee Year , known as the Jubilee of Hope. In his letter to Monsignor Rino Fisichella, President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelisation, which is responsible for organising this Holy Year 2025, the Pope, while taking stock of the tragedies experienced by humanity in recent years, invites us “to keep alight the flame of hope that has been given to us, and to do everything possible so that everyone may rediscover the strength and certainty to look to the future with an open mind, a trusting heart and a clear-sighted intelligence…”.

The Pope inaugurates a year of prayer to prepare for the Jubilee

To prepare spiritually for this great Jubilee, and at the suggestion of Pope Francis, 2024 has been declared the Year of Prayer. This year, he explained, is dedicated to “rediscovering the great value and absolute need of prayer in personal life as well as in the life of the Church”. To live out the “time of grace” leading up to the opening of the Holy Door, Francis is asking the faithful to “intensify” their prayer. The dioceses are invited to promote the centrality of prayer through various initiatives: pilgrimages, community and individual prayers to help the people of God to put their deep relationship with the Lord back at the heart of their lives. So let us journey together in prayer towards the 2025Jubilee Year .
