Mozambique | Videos of rage igniting spirits and fires
Videos from a burning Mozambique speak more than a thousand words
There is still chaos in Mozambique. People in the streets are venting their anger by setting fire to everything, as can be seen in the videos sent to us by Don Carlo Donisotti, a fidei donum from Vercelli.
There is tension, there is frustration, there is anger.
And hunger and misery inflame spirits even more, as well as the fires.
The missionary, once again, tells us about the “turmoil” in which the country is living. “There is no more money, stores are being attacked, there are constant clashes with the police. It’s a sad and worrying situation.”
One only has to look at the videos to realize that it is very dangerous to move through the streets, assuming the protesters allow them to pass. Other sources, moreover, tell us that this is often granted only by paying lace.
Despite the urging of the international community, which has expressed concern about the escalation of violence in Mozambique, nothing is changing, and politics is not protecting citizens, let alone helping them out of this impasse.
Indeed, it is the October 9, 2024 general elections that are the cause of what is happening, with the reappointment of the Liberation Front of Mozambique (FRELIMO) and Daniel Chapo and the subsequent protests and allegations of fraud.
In Mozambique, the balance between the needs for political stability, human rights and economic development is very delicate. As we await new developments, we try to set in motion what we can: from prayer to aid.
