In this column, throughout the year, the journey of the Jubilee as told by spazio + spadoni from different parts of the world
Sister Petronie Toyi of the Disciples of Christ tells us about the opening of the Jubilee Year in the Cathedral of Marie Reine de Bururi, Burundi
In the Cathedral of Marie Reine de Bururi, the opening liturgy of the Jubilee Year of the Catholic Church 2025 was celebrated on December 29, 2024. It was the day of the Solemnity of the Holy Family.
On this day, the Christians of Bururi Parish responded massively to this event.
God’s people entered the cathedral through the main door, and the bishop and other ministers went in procession to the altar
After the procession, Bishop Salvator Niciteretse proceeded with the rite of sprinkling of all the people in memory of Baptism, the sacrament of the new covenant.
In his homily, he emphasized the theme that will accompany God’s people in this jubilee year: “Pilgrims of Hope.”
And he took the opportunity to challenge the faithful to never lose the hope we have in God despite the difficulties that reign in the world.
