Marching against trafficking in Palermo, amid testimonies and prayers
On February 10, 2025, Palermo hosted a march against human trafficking on the occasion of the 11th World Day Against Trafficking
The event saw the participation of numerous faithful who paraded through the city’s streets, uniting their voices in prayer and testimonies. The Archbishop of Palermo, Monsignor Corrado Lorefice, presided over the Eucharistic celebration, emphasizing the importance of living the works of mercy as an integral part of the Christian mission. He urged those present to spread the Gospel through concrete actions, promoting the dignity and freedom of every person. The march represented a moment of reflection and commitment, inviting the community to remain vigilant and active in the fight against trafficking, uniting efforts to build a more just and supportive society.
PALERMO. Rani (a 17-year-old student), Leyla (a mother of three), Aisha (a woman from North Africa) and Malyn (a survivor of exploitation) are women who, thanks to those who cared for them, were able to get out of the tunnel of abuse and exploitation by taking back their lives.
Starting with them, last night, on the occasion of the 11th World Day Against Trafficking, the vigil and city march “Ambassadors of Hope. Together Against Trafficking in Persons” in memory of St. Josephine Bakhita, a victim of slavery.
“Unfortunately, after so many years of countering and intervening in favor of the victims,” the organizing committee writes, ”we do not see a decrease in the phenomenon, but rather we are faced with a constant increase and change in the forms of trafficking and the ways of exploitation.
There is, therefore, a great need to intensify both prevention and law enforcement interventions, as well as to revive social reintegration programs.”
