“Letters under the tree” | 5
Today, it is Fr. Oliviero Ferro, a Xaverian missionary, who writes us from Sardinia his “letter under the tree”
(by Fr. Oliviero Ferro)
Dear World,
you know, I have been in Africa for 13 and a half years.
Now, I’m told, there are about 20 million internal refugees: they run away from home because of wars, drought, violence.
And they rely on God’s mercy.
I would like you to tell the powerful and those who exploit the poor to stop, to think that they too are people who have a right to a home, to a job, and above all to peace….
How much suffering I have seen in their midst, but how many beautiful things they have also taught me!
So, dear world, will you get a move on and start getting the real peace movement “moving” again, not just holding marches and demonstrations on Saturday mornings?
You would need people to share some or all of their lives with them.
Perhaps, something would change for the better and show that mercy is something that can become a reality, if I too am merciful, both with myself and with others.
Merry Christmas, dear world. from one of your citizens who is heading toward 74 years old.
