Kenya: in Nairobi the spazio + spadoni’s Forum on Works of Mercy
spazio + spadoni’s Forum on the reEvolution of Works of Mercy will be held in Nairobi on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1
On August 31 and September 1, a significant gathering will take place in the heart of Nairobi (Mariapolis Piero-Focolare Centre), where a Forum centered on “The reEvolution of the Works of Mercy” will be held. This event is spearheaded by spazio + spadoni, who since four years dedicated to reviving and reEvolutionizing the concept of works of mercy in action.
The Forum seeks to forge a collaborative path among religious congregations, laypeople, and parishes within the Nairobi Diocese and beyond, in a concerted effort to promote and integrate the works of mercy into daily life and ministry.
The Works and reEvolution
The works of mercy, rooted deeply in Christian tradition, are divided in two categories: the corporal works of mercy and the spiritual works of mercy. These acts of charity, such as feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and counselling the doubtful, are not just charitable actions, but in the spirit of “reEvolution” proposed by spazio + spadoni, can be considered essential practice that embody the teaching of Jesus Christ, and bring dignity to human being. In a world that often seems overwhelmed by indifference and injustice, the call to mercy is more urgent than over, as a human and divine way.
spazio + spadoni has emerged as dynamic force, advocating for a reinvigoration of the works of mercy, not merely about maintaining the status quo, but to bring reEvolution in how mercy is understood and practiced. By engaging with community, providing resources and fostering networks, spazio + spadoni aims to empower individuals and groups to live out the works of mercy in impactful and sustainable way.
The Forum in Nairobi, a great opportunity
The upcoming Forum in Nairobi is a testament to this vision. It is an opportunity to bring together diverse groups within the Church-religious congregations, laypeople, and parish communities – to share experiences based in the spirit of reEvolution of works of mercy, learn from one another, and create strategies for promoting mercy in all its forms.
The collaboration between these different sectors of the Church is crucial, as it reflects the universal nature of the call to mercy and the need for a unified response to the challenges facing society today. That why, the convention will see active participation from various religious congregations, laypeople, and parish across Nairobi Diocese. This diverse representation is key to the event’s success, as each group brings unique perspectives and strengths to the table.
The protagonists
Religious congregations, with their charisms and deep spiritual roots and long-standing traditions of service, will sharing their experiences in living out the works of mercy. Their commitment to serve the marginalized, will provide valuable insights into how mercy can be practiced today’s world.
Laypeople, who are increasingly taking on leadership roles within the Church, are essential to the Forum’s goals. Their involvement in various ministries, such catechism, apostolate, and everyday acts of kindness demonstrates that the call to mercy is not limited to those in religious life. The Forum will be an occasion to share experiences and to learn new ways to integrate the works of mercy into personal and professional lives, as spazio + spadoni proposed in this reEvolution of works of mercy.
Parishes, as a primary centers of community, are critical in this endeavour. They are where faith is lived out in the day-to-day experiences of believers. The Forum will explore how parishes can become hubs of mercy, reaching out to those in need within their communities and beyond. This will involve not only charitable activities but also creating a culture of mercy that permeates all aspects of parish life.
The organizing committee
A key element of the convention’s planning execution is a Committee led by Jeanine, sister Joan and sister Marie Louise, along with a priest delegated by the Archbishop of Nairobi (who addressed a message to the participants of the Forum). They are not only excited to be part of this transformative event but also deeply invested in ensuring that the convention’s outcomes lead to lasting change.
The Forum is not just a one-time event; it is the beginning of a movement. The collaboration and connections formed during these two days will lay the groundwork for ongoing initiatives that promote the works of mercy in different communities.
The gathering represents more than just an event; it is a call to action for all those who believe in the power of mercy to change the world. spazio + spadoni, together with the religious congregations, laypeople and parishes involved, is committed to ensuring that this call does not go unanswered, this is time to embrace the “reEvolution of works of mercy” and carry it forward.

And we answer, “Always!”
From today start using our motto. When you greet, when you rise, when you meet, when you do and share a Work.
