The presence of Christians in India
The Diocese of Kannur is located in India’s federated state of Kerala and is a suffragan see of the Archdiocese of Verapoly.
Christian Catholics, in India represent about 2.5 percent of the total population. A very small percentage on the surface but when compared to the total number of inhabitants, about 1.5 billion, it becomes an even larger representation than those found in some European states.
Most Christians live in southern India. After all, it was in the state of Kerala that the first Christian communities were born, and it was from there that St. Thomas the Apostle, in the year 52, began to spread the Gospel.
Christians are to this day distributed in the life of the country, thanks to the effort on the level of social integration perpetuated by the first Indian Christians.
Presence of spazio + spadoni in India
Since its inception in 2020, spazio + spadoni has been developing its collaborations in India, especially in Kerala with several women religious congregations. With some of them the project HIC SUM and OPERA M. In fact, the religious women always emphasize the importance and the need for the knowledge of works of mercy within the country for the building of a more equitable society in which all people and especially the poorest are given back their dignity.
Most devotedly, we wish Bishop Dennis Kuruppassery a fruitful apostolate in his new diocese.
