Homeless women and women with criminal measures welcomed at Gancia

Fortuna, Alessandra, Sabina and Mirabelle are taking back their lives. On “Il Mediterraneo24”, their testimonies

PALERMO – After so many difficulties, there is a great desire to live in Fortuna, Alessandra, Sabina and Mirabelle. They are some of the nine women who, for some time now, have been taken in at the Franciscan convent of La Gancia. They are women who have criminal measures, former prisoners and homeless women.

Fortuna, today, is starting a new life. “After being inside Pagliarelli prison,” recounted 42-year-old Fortuna, originally from Eritrea, ”since 2018 I have been taken in by Brother Loris. I was living in Rome with my husband where we worked.

In 2016, my life was overwhelmed by events that I never imagined could happen.

At Fra Loris I was under house arrest. I suffered a lot but, after a long trial, I was acquitted. Today I am free, working in a vacation home and getting my driver’s license. I thank those who helped me to be reborn. Good exists.”

Alessandra, on the other hand, is from Palermo and is 27 years old. “I was initially accepted on furlough in 2023,” Alessandra recounted.
