Haiti’s horrors and the martyrdom of children: ‘the world cannot be silent’

Unicef unveils violence against children in Haiti, the poorest country in Latin America. In the face of this, one cannot remain indifferent

The world cannot remain silent in the face of the horrors devastating Haiti, especially the tragic violence inflicted on children.

Recently, UNICEF documented brutal attacks, including the killing of a two-month-old child, burned alive in front of his mother. This violence is carried out by armed gangs that spread terror and destroy any hope of safety.

Children are the primary victims of a conflict that destroys their innocence and robs them of their future. In this context of suffering, the mission of the Church and international organizations becomes even more urgent.

The works of mercy are called to act in order to protect the most vulnerable, reminding us that every life is sacred and deserving of protection. During the jubilee, the message of the Gospel urges us to respond to these atrocities with love and compassion, promoting peace and justice.

The call is not to remain indifferent: it is crucial for the world to continue denouncing the violence and to take concrete action to stop it, so that God’s mercy can shine even in the darkest places.
