First Office for Works of Mercy | Vatican News also talks about spazio + spadoni

After L’Osservatore Romano, Vatican News also talks about the Office for Works of Mercy in Cameroon and spazio + spadoni

They say that good doesn’t make a sound, but sooner or later it makes itself heard, loud and clear. And it comes like thunder that

Luigi Spadoni with Sister Marie-Noëlle Messini

makes the heart burst with joy.

Both because good things happen and because they begin to be talked about.

After the article published in L’Osservatore Romano on March 8, also Vatican News, on March 16, dedicates space to the news of the birth of the first Office in the world dedicated to the Works of Mercy, precisely in the diocese of Bafia, in Cameroon.

A significant event to which is added the fact that Sister Marie-Noëlle Messini has been appointed to head this Office, a clear sign of the desire to enhance the role of women in the Church.

The Vatican News article, signed by Stanislas Kambashi with Paule Valérie Mendogo (Douala), calls it “une nouveauté sans précédent” (an unprecedented novelty), explaining that there will be three organizations involved.

They write the following: “in Sister Messini’s letter of appointment dated Feb. 26, 2025, Bishop Dassi Youfang emphasized that she will serve in collaboration with the diocesan Caritas Commission, the prison chaplaincy and the association spazio + spadoni, which the nun defines as ‘an organization that networks and carries out missionary activities aimed at promoting the spread of works of mercy.’”

In the interview, Sister Marie Noelle also reiterates that “spazio + spadoni does not assist, but promotes, initiates, accompanies and supports charity projects with the aim of restoring dignity to people.” Because the works of mercy-spiritual and corporal-that this new apostolate will promote “if lived fully, help us to become new men and women.”

The hope of Luigi Spadoni, founder of the spazio + spadoni movement, is that “it will not be a news flash or just a newspaper headline, but a flywheel and a cue for other dioceses, for the replication of an initiative that was not born out of the blue but was built over time through a process of listening and formation.”

As also recalled in Vatican News, in fact, “Sister Marie-Noëlle participated in a specialized training course run by spazio + spadoni and then became involved in organizing a forum dedicated to the Works of Mercy in Cameroon.”

And from now on, in carrying out the role assigned to her by the Cameroonian bishop, her main and constant activity will be – as she says – to “spread the works of mercy through information, formation and witness of life” while contributing “also to the implementation of projects for the development of the diocese of Bafia.”

The commitment of spazio + spadoni will be to stir this idea throughout the Church.
